The EDC is committed to its existing industry base and to attracting new industry to the area for a well balanced and diversified economy.  As conditions, circumstances and our current economy changes and morphs into new identities, the EDC will enact ad hoc task forces or committees to address the current unplanned needs of the community.

  Ad hoc is a Latin phrase which, literally, means "For this". It generally signifies a solution designed for a specific problem or task, non-generalizable, and which cannot be adapted to other purposes.

Common examples are organizations, committees, and commissions created at the national or international level for a specific task. In other fields the term may refer, for example, to a military unit created under special circumstances, tailor-made suit, a handcrafted network protocol or a purpose-specific equation. Ad hoc can also have connotations of a makeshift solution, inadequate planning, or improvised events.

The EDC hosted the Corporate Olympics from 1996 to 2003 in support of the state's recognition of Industry Appreciation Week and The Governor's Diversification Award. 

Companies receive the Governor's Diversification Award in recognition of their excellence as a corporate citizen and their economic and civic contributions.  Less than a dozen companies state wide receive this prestigious leadership award.
