The EDC's monthly "Vision of Growth" TV show on the Cox Network is always a great opportunity to talk about economic growth and diversity. In an unprecedented partnership, the Crestview Area, Destin Area, Greater Fort Walton Beach and Niceville Valparaiso Chambers of Commerce and the Economic Development Council of Okaloosa County came together to host a Roundtable event centered around the creation of a strategic plan on community and economic development for Okaloosa County. The community hosted a Roundtable on February 27, 2013 with guest speaker Ms. Bentina Terry, the Florida Chamber Foundation Chair and VP of External Affairs & Corporate Services for Gulf Power Company. 

The Six Pillars™ Community is a long-term community strategic planning process. This plan will be a public/private collaboration to diversify, grow and sustain the economy of Okaloosa County.

Jim Heald, EDC Chairman, as host is interviewing Mr. Dwight Howard and Dr. Jack Azzaretto on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).  Today, our country, state and nation are facing the lack of a skilled labor workforce.  STEM needs have become very common in our community and across the nation with several large local defense contractors that are very involved in the effort to replace their aging workforce.

Nathan Sparks, EDC Executive Director, talks with Linda Sumblin, Workforce Development Board of Okaloosa & Walton Counties, and Ron Garriga, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide, about the Winter 2013 International Aerospace Industry Forum for Northwest Florida trip to Hamburg, Germany. This forum brought together 35 businesses, education and community leaders from Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties working together to bring more aerospace to Northwest Florida.
