EDC Roundtable Symposiums

In previous years, high profiles speakers have included a representative from the Federal Reserve Bank, the Florida Department of Transportation Director to the Florida Secretary of Commerce. 

The EDC's morning roundtable event provides a buffet breakfast and approximately 200 community leaders attend these informative morning symposiums.

New Leadership for a New Age: Higher Education

Panelists included: Dr. Martha Saunders, President of the University of West Florida, and Dr. Devin Stephenson, President of Northwest Florida State College.

The Power of Perseverance featuring Lonnie Johnson - Johnson served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was awarded multiple medals and helped develop components in the stealth bomber program. Later as a NASA Nuclear Engineer, he received multiple achievement awards for his work in spacecraft system design. Johnson is most well known as the inventor of the Super Soaker squirt gun, that received multiple industry awards, including Outdoor Toy of the Year. This is a free event and will take place at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville from 7:30 to 9 PM.

Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me - Changing Focus is designed for service members who will leave, or who have left, active duty within the next/past two years. All veterans, regardless of when they left active duty, are eligible to attend. Changing Focus is a sequence of training and interactive exercises conducted in a series of intensive indoor workshops over 30 hours (4 days). Session size is limited, so register early. This event is FREE but requires advanced registration at Meals during sessions are included and spouses or significant others are welcome. Read more

Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium - Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium Adventure is an immersive experience that invites you to jump in and explore unknown ocean depths where prehistoric marine reptiles lived eons ago – and maybe still live today! Erth shows are at the forefront of family entertainment, using actors, technology, puppets, science and imagination to create an amazing visual experience that connects young audiences to the real science of paleontology. This prehistoric event will have two showings. The first performance will be at 10 a.m., followed by an evening performance at 7:00 p.m. Shows are approximately one hour in length. Rosie Revere, Engineer - With a spotlight upon STEM curriculum, this fun new musical is based upon Andrea Beaty’s book series (Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; and Ada Twist, Scientist). There will be two showings of this event. The first performance will start at 9:45 a.m., followed by the second show time at 11:30 a.m. Shows are approximately one hour in length. Sip & Science—Emerald Coast Science Center - Bring your friends, grab a drink, and unleash your inner scientist! Fun knows no age limit, so get ready to play like a kid again. Did you know February 9 is National Pizza Day? Grab your friends and join the Emerald Coast Science Center for a pizza party--there's plenty of beer and cheesy goodness to go around! Get the chance to engineer your very own Rube Goldberg Machine and test it out--will it stand up to the challenge, or will your team have to go back to the drawing board? A Rube Goldberg Machine is a crazy contraption which accomplishes a simple task in the most complicated – and funniest – way possible. Maybe your machine will help you open a beer, snap a selfie of your squad, or simply create chaos. Either way, you don't want to miss this night at the museum. The event will be held at the Emerald Coast Science Center from 6 pm to 9 pm. Ticket price includes admission, drink tickets for beer and wine, and pizza. Brain Chasing: Talent Attraction as a Community Strategy - The EDC Roundtable event will be held at The Island, by Hotel RL from 7:30 to 9:30 AM. The event will be moderated by Dr. David Goetsch and panelists include: Eric Walker, EMSI; Michele Burns, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton; and Matt Zimmermann, Beast Code LLC. Pre-registration is required by February 25th. There is a discount for EDC Investors, Uniformed Military Personnel, County and City Elected Officials and Staff from Okaloosa County Governments.
